How we price Restoration Hardware leather pieces
Where we draw the line between quick flips and deeper restorations on RH leather, and how patina versus damage affects margin.
We sort RH leather into three buckets: light patina (sell as-is with light conditioning), sun-faded/high-wear (targeted recolor), and true damage (hard pass unless margins are massive).
If the hide is thick and stitching is intact, we’re willing to restore. If the hide is cracking or flaking, we skip it unless replacement cushions are already in the plan.
For pricing, we track comps by model, size, and leather tier. A well-kept Maxwell/Cloud in a current color sells fast; older or niche colors need a discount even after restoration.
When restoration is required, we bake materials and time into the margin and price slightly below pristine comps to move inventory quickly.
Takeaways
- Patina sells; cracking doesn’t. Be honest about where the line is.
- Bake restoration time into your target margin before committing.
- Color and size matter more than brand name—match comps tightly.
